Sonoran Mountain Turquoise Ring in Sterling Silver, Size 6.75
Only 1 left
A Sonoran Mountain turquoise ring in sterling silver, size 6 3/4. A 12 carat round cabochon in saturated blue-green, bezel set in silver. One of a kind.
Sonoran Mountain comes out of northern Mexico and it is the clean one. Where Nevada material tends to be defined by its matrix, Sonoran Mountain is usually valued for the opposite reason: an even, saturated blue-green face with very little interruption. What you are looking at is mostly color.
The round cut suits that. There is no long axis to orient, nothing to line up with the finger, so it sits well on a smaller hand and reads as a finished piece rather than a big statement. Size 6 3/4 is one of the most commonly worn ring sizes, which makes this one of the easier pieces in the group to buy as a gift.
Every Sonoran Mountain cabochon is cut and backed at Cutting Edge Turquoise before it goes into a setting. Backing is what lets natural, untreated turquoise be worn rather than shelved.

Who made it
Joyce Benavidez and Jill Monfiletto built this ring at Cutting Edge Turquoise, our family turquoise and lapidary business, around a stone cut in their own shop. That is not how most turquoise jewelry gets made. Usually the rough passes from a dealer to a cutter to a silversmith to a gallery, and nobody along that chain has seen both ends of it. Here the same hands chose the rough, cut the cabochon, and set it in silver.
