One hundred percent baby alpaca, in brown or grey, with fringed ends and no pattern at all. Nothing to look at and everything to feel. If you have only ever touched blended alpaca, this will recalibrate you.

It is $300, and I am not going to pretend that is an impulse buy. It is the anniversary, the big birthday, the thing somebody keeps for thirty years.

What it is made of

100% baby alpaca. No blend, no filler, nothing hiding in the label.

Baby alpaca does not mean a baby animal. It is the first, finest shearing, taken from the neck and shoulders where the fiber is softest. It is warmer than sheep wool at half the weight, and it has no lanolin, so the people who break out in regular wool are usually fine in this. That is the whole reason it costs what it costs.

Where it comes from

Made in Peru, fair trade, with a portion of proceeds going back to the Peruvian artisans who make it.

Care

Dry clean only. I know that is less convenient, and I would rather tell you now than have you find out from a tag after you have already run it through the wash. Between cleanings, air it out and use a soft brush on any pilling. Never iron it directly. A light steam is fine.
