The Number 8 mine sits in the Lynn district of Eureka County, Nevada, and it stopped producing turquoise decades ago. Every Number 8 stone on the market today comes out of old stock somebody has been holding since. That is the whole reason the name carries weight with collectors: the supply is finished, and the spiderweb pattern it produced is hard to mistake for anything else. I called this one Lost Vein for that reason.

This ring wears like a true Southwest statement piece: a single, prominent turquoise stone set in sterling silver, with a clean band that stays out of the stone's way. Who made it
Joyce Benavidez and Jill Monfiletto built this ring at Cutting Edge Turquoise, our family turquoise and lapidary business, around a stone cut in their own shop.
That is not how most turquoise jewelry gets made. Usually the rough passes from a dealer to a cutter to a silversmith to a gallery, and nobody along that chain has seen both ends of it. Here the same hands chose the rough, cut the cabochon, and set it in silver.

How it wears
This is an artisan statement ring designed to be worn, not tucked away. The sterling silver band is comfortable enough for regular wear, and the single, prominent turquoise stone makes it easy to use as your one bold piece for everyday outfits, Southwest and Santa Fe-style looks, or layered into boho wardrobes.
