Rocky Andean Alpaca Blanket

One diamond, dead center, and the good sense to leave it alone.

Heathered grey and tan ground with a single cream and gold diamond in the middle. The most restrained thing in the collection. It looks less like a southwestern blanket and more like a very expensive throw someone brought back from somewhere.

What it is made of

50% alpaca wool, 50% ultra-soft acrylic with recycled content. I am putting that right here instead of burying it, because "alpaca blanket" gets thrown around loosely and you deserve to know what you are buying. This is a real blend. The alpaca half is what makes it warm and soft as cashmere. The acrylic half is what makes it washable, hard to wreck, and $150 instead of $400.

Size

About 90 by 78 inches, which covers a queen bed and still hangs over the sides. Big enough that two people can actually share it, which sounds obvious until you have fought over a throw that was not.

Reversible, so you get two looks in one blanket.

Where it comes from

Woven in Ecuador by local artisans on looms that have been running for roughly a hundred years. A portion of what you pay goes back to those artisans. That arrangement is a big part of why I brought this line in.

Care

Machine wash cold on gentle or delicate with a mild detergent. Skip the bleach and skip the fabric softener, both of which flatten the pile. Hang it or lay it flat to dry and reshape it while it is still damp. Do not put it in the dryer.

If it pills a little in the first few washes, that is normal for a blended fiber. A fabric shaver or a soft clothes brush sorts it out in about a minute.
