Andean Alpaca Baby Blanket

The same Andean weave scaled down for a crib or a stroller, in navy and teal, pink, or tan and brown. Reversible, so it looks finished no matter which way it lands.

The fibers are hand-dyed, so the exact tone shifts a little between blankets. That is how you know a person made it and not a machine in a warehouse.

Practical note, because it matters more on a baby item: this is a blend, not pure alpaca, and it is machine washable. Given what happens to baby blankets, that is a feature.

What it is made of

50% alpaca wool, 50% ultra-soft acrylic with recycled content. I am putting that right here instead of burying it, because "alpaca blanket" gets thrown around loosely and you deserve to know what you are buying. This is a real blend. The alpaca half is what makes it warm and soft as cashmere. The acrylic half is what makes it washable and hard to wreck.

Size

About 45 by 39 inches, which is stroller and crib scale rather than swaddle scale. Reversible.

Where it comes from

Woven in Ecuador by local artisans on looms that have been running for roughly a hundred years. A portion of what you pay goes back to those artisans. That arrangement is a big part of why I brought this line in.

Care

Machine wash cold on gentle or delicate with a mild detergent. Skip the bleach and skip the fabric softener, both of which flatten the pile. Hang it or lay it flat to dry and reshape it while it is still damp. Do not put it in the dryer.

If it pills a little in the first few washes, that is normal for a blended fiber. A fabric shaver or a soft clothes brush sorts it out in about a minute.
