Lapis Lazuli Earrings, Oval Drops in Sterling Silver with Twisted Rope Border

Lapis lazuli drop earrings in sterling silver. A matched pair of deep royal blue ovals with natural pyrite flecked through the stone, each held in a sawtooth bezel inside a twisted rope border. One pair, stamped P on the back.

The silverwork is the traditional kind, and it is worth a close look. The sawtooth bezel is a row of small triangular teeth folded over the edge of the stone to hold it, and the twisted rope border runs around it. Both are old Southwest techniques, done by hand one tooth and one twist at a time.

Pyrite is the sign you want in lapis. Natural material carries it, along with a little white calcite, while the flawlessly even blue in cheap jewelry is usually dyed howlite.

They hang on sterling wires with enough movement to read as a small statement, but pared back enough for everyday wear. Easy to dress up when you want blue to be the accent, and a thoughtful gift for anyone who loves blue stone or traditional silverwork.
