Pilot Mountain Turquoise

Pilot Mountain Turquoise
Mineral County, Nevada
A collector-grade Nevada mine known for clean blues with dramatic iron matrix.
Where it comes from
Pilot Mountain is a small mine in Mineral County, Nevada, producing some of the most distinctive turquoise in the American market. Production is limited and hand-cut by a small circle of cutters, which keeps Pilot Mountain in collector and high-end jewelry circles rather than mass retail.
What makes it distinctive
The stones run from clean medium blue to deep teal-green, frequently with rusty iron-brown matrix that adds warmth without overwhelming the blue. The matrix patterning can be tight and detailed or broader and softer, but it's almost always present. Hard, well-saturated, and visually balanced.
How to identify it
Look for the warm iron matrix paired with strong blue color. Pilot Mountain doesn't have the dramatic spiderweb of Number 8 or the deep electric blue of Bisbee, but it has a quieter, more painterly character that collectors recognize. Provenance matters at this tier of the market.
