Fox Turquoise

Fox Turquoise
Lander County, Nevada
Classic American greens from a Nevada mine in steady production since the 1940s.
Where it comes from
Fox turquoise comes from the Lander County region of Nevada, mined commercially since the late 1940s. The mine has produced steadily for over seventy years, which makes Fox material more available than many older Nevada mines that have gone quiet.
What makes it distinctive
The color skews green to blue-green, often with brown, red, or black matrix depending on the vein. Hardness is good for daily wear, and the green-leaning color sets Fox apart from the more blue-dominant Nevada producers. Common in mid-century Native silversmithing.
How to identify it
Look for the green character. If a stone reads more electric blue, it's probably not Fox. Quality Fox cabs show clean color with well-integrated matrix that runs across the surface. The green tones often feel slightly olive or sage rather than the brighter spring greens of Carico Lake.
