wild-horse-stone-ring-sterling-silver-size-7
Wild Horse Stone Ring in Sterling Silver, Size 7

A Wild Horse ring in sterling silver, size 7. A 12.5 carat oval cabochon, cream and white broken up by red-brown, bezel set in silver. One of a kind.

Wild Horse is magnesite, not turquoise, and it only comes from one place: a single deposit outside Globe, Arizona. That is the whole reason it is collected. The white is magnesite and the red-brown running through it is hematite, and because there is exactly one source, supply is finite in a way most stones are not.

The color does something turquoise cannot. Cream and rust read as warm rather than cool, so this sits naturally with brown leather, denim, copper and gold in a way a blue stone fights. It is the piece to reach for when turquoise feels like the obvious choice.

Every Wild Horse cabochon is cut and backed at Cutting Edge Turquoise before it goes into a setting. Magnesite is softer than turquoise, so backing is not optional on a stone this size if it is going to be worn.

Details

Ring size: 7

Stone: Genuine Wild Horse magnesite, Globe, Arizona

Stone size: 12.5 carats

Stone shape: Oval cabochon

Metal: Sterling silver, .925

Setting: Bezel

Makers: Joyce Benavidez and Jill Monfiletto, Cutting Edge Turquoise

Stone cut and backed by: Cutting Edge Turquoise

Type: One-of-a-kind, only one available

Who made it
Joyce Benavidez and Jill Monfiletto built this ring at Cutting Edge Turquoise, our family turquoise and lapidary business, around a stone cut in their own shop. That is not how most Southwest jewelry gets made. Usually the rough passes from a dealer to a cutter to a silversmith to a gallery, and nobody along that chain has seen both ends of it. Here the same hands chose the rough, cut the cabochon, and set it in silver.

Will it fit you
This ring exists in one size only: 7.
